What is an unspent conviction?
A conviction is unspent where the relevant rehabilitation period has not yet ended.
The length of the rehabilitation period for a conviction will depend on the sentence given and the age of the individual at the time of sentencing. These periods are set out in the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
Unspent convictions will be disclosed on a basic DBS check.
