Why do I have to provide my fingerprints?

DBS occasionally requires applicants to provide fingerprints to associate or disassociate them from a criminal record that has similar details to the applicant’s.

The fingerprints are compared with those on record. This is the most accurate way to associate or disassociate the applicant from the police record.

Applicants may sometimes be invited to provide fingerprints if they were unable to provide sufficient evidence of their identity at the application stage.
